How Duration Between Dates Is Calculated
The duration between two dates is computed by counting full years, then remaining full months, then remaining days. This gives a human-readable result like 5 years, 5 months, and 14 days rather than just a raw day count.

Common questions
Does the order of dates matter?
The calculator always computes the positive duration between the two dates. If you enter the later date first, it will still return the correct duration without negative values.
How are leap years handled?
Leap years are fully accounted for. If the duration spans February 29 in a leap year, that day is included in the count. The total days figure reflects the actual calendar days between the two dates.
Is the end date included in the count?
The calculator counts the days between the start and end dates, not including the end date itself. This is consistent with how most duration calculations work (for example, January 1 to January 2 is 1 day).
Can I use this for work experience calculations?
Yes. Enter your employment start date and either today or your end date to find your exact tenure. The years-months-days format is ideal for resumes and job applications.
Durations are measured in wall-clock time using the dates and times you enter. If your span crosses a daylight-saving change, the real elapsed time can differ by one hour from the clock difference. Verify against a source clock when exact seconds matter.
